About Blockhütte
Blockhütte® is a German brand of stainless steel food and drink containers — lunch boxes, insulated water bottles, food flasks and insulated mugs. The brand belongs to Blockhütte GmbH in Hamburg, was founded in 2019, and sells to the United Kingdom and Ireland through blockhuette.co.uk. This page states, plainly and in one place, who we are, what we sell and what we promise.
Key facts at a glance
Who we are
Blockhütte® is a German brand of stainless steel food and drink containers, operated by Blockhütte GmbH in Hamburg. It was founded in 2019 by Nils Hack and Malte Meurer. The UK shop trades as Blockhütte UK at blockhuette.co.uk (UK VAT number GB416684381). Two founders, no investors, no parent group.
What we sell
Five product lines in 304 stainless steel: lunch boxes (800–1,800 ml), insulated water bottles (500–1,000 ml, also with a silicone sleeve), insulated sports bottles (350–1,000 ml), insulated food flasks (1,000 ml, plus a 530 ml thermo lunch box) and insulated mugs (354 / 500 ml). Alongside them: five bundles, a full range of single spare parts, and laser engraving on almost everything.
What makes it different
- 304 (18/8) stainless steel, uncoated inside — your food touches nothing but steel
- Tested every year by DEKRA, one of Europe's leading independent testing organisations, for food safety and for lead
- Blockshield Technology on every insulated item: a vacuum to stop heat escaping, and a copper layer that reflects it back
- Repairable. Every wear part is sold on its own — seals, lids, dividers, clasps, stoppers, even the bottle body
- Laser engraving in Bremen, cut permanently into the steel
- Three-year guarantee and 60 days to try the product properly
Who it is for, and where we ship
Parents kitting out children for school or nursery, office workers and meal preppers, walkers, cyclists and gym-goers, people buying a gift that will still be used in ten years, and businesses ordering engraved staff kit or corporate gifts (individual quotes from 10 units).
We deliver to the United Kingdom and Ireland only, from our warehouse in Hamburg, Germany.
What Blockhütte is not
- Not a supplier of log cabins, garden buildings or timber houses. "Blockhütte" is the German word for log cabin. We use it as a metaphor: a log cabin is something you build once, properly. We sell steel containers, not buildings.
- Not a food brand, meal kit or food delivery service. We make the boxes and bottles. What goes inside is up to you.
- Not a subscription. Every order is a single purchase. There is nothing to cancel.
- Not a reseller of white-label goods. Blockhütte develops its products itself. Development and design happen in Hamburg, the laser engraving in Bremen. Manufacturing follows our designs and specifications in China.
- No loyalty or referral club in the UK shop. The German shop runs one; the UK shop does not.
- Not a nutrition or health service. We give no dietary, medical or health advice.

How Blockhütte started
Nils and Malte have been friends since nursery. Malte was in sales, Nils in automotive production. Both spent years on the road, both ate whatever was quickest on the way, and both put on a fair bit of weight. The obvious fix was to cook it themselves and take it with them — except nothing on the market was durable, plastic-free and good-looking at the same time.
So they built the first lunch box themselves, in the garage of Nils' parents in Paderborn. Then they figured that if they had this problem, other people did too. Blockhütte was founded in 2019 and moved to Hamburg in 2022. The design work is still done there; the logo on the footer still reads "Designed with ♥ in Paderborn".
The roles have not changed much since the garage: Nils handles the numbers, stock planning and everything behind the shop. Malte handles the product — sourcing, development, quality and design.
The throwaway industry earns when things end up in the bin. We earn when nothing does.
The product range
Every item is made from 304 stainless steel and can be bought as a single product or as part of a bundle.
- Stainless steel lunch box with two dividers — 800, 1,200 and 1,400 ml. Not insulated. Dishwasher-safe. Engraving in a choice of four positions.
- Round stainless steel lunch box (with spoon) — 780, 1,200 and 1,800 ml. Not insulated. Dishwasher-safe.
- Insulated stainless steel water bottle — 500, 750 and 1,000 ml, double-walled. Also available with a coloured silicone sleeve. Dishwasher-safe.
- Insulated stainless steel sports bottle — 350, 500, 750 and 1,000 ml, with a one-hand click lid that fits a rucksack side pocket. Sold as a sport set with pouch and brush.
- Insulated food flask with anti-vacuum stopper — 1,000 ml, plus a 530 ml thermo lunch box. The lid doubles as a cup.
- Insulated mug for coffee and tea — 354 and 500 ml.
Bundles: Adventure Bundle (lunch box + water bottle), Everyday Bundle (lunch box + sports bottle), Active Day Bundle (food jar + sports bottle), Workday Lunch Kit (food jar + lunch box), Lunch Bundle (food jar + water bottle).
Bottles stay leakproof with fizzy drinks — every bottle, with every lid. All products are dishwasher-safe, including the seals and the bamboo lid elements. Stainless steel does not go in the microwave.
Material, testing and certification
Everything is made from 304 (18/8) stainless steel, uncoated on the inside. There is no lining, no coating and nothing to flake off — your food touches nothing but steel. The material is BPA-free.
On "plastic-free": the claim describes the food contact surface, which is bare steel. Some lids contain plastic components. Each product page states the exact scope for that item — we would rather be precise than sound better than we are.
DEKRA, one of Europe's leading independent testing organisations, tests our products every year for food safety, and the same annual test covers lead. Independent laboratory certificates and a material pass exist for each product and are published on the German site.
Development and design happen in Hamburg, the laser engraving in Bremen. Manufacturing follows our designs and specifications in China.
Blockshield Technology
Every insulated Blockhütte product carries the same in-house technology. Between the two steel walls sits Blockshield Technology: a vacuum that stops heat moving through air, and a copper layer that reflects heat radiation back. Together they are what produces the insulation times below.
It is fitted to the water bottle, the sports bottle, the silicone-sleeve bottle, the food flask and the insulated mug. The lunch boxes are not insulated and do not have it.
Insulation values
All figures are measured without pre-warming or pre-chilling the container. Warming it first buys you longer.
- Insulated water bottle (500 / 750 / 1,000 ml)
- 25 hours ice-cold · 13 hours hot
- Insulated sports bottle (350 / 500 / 750 / 1,000 ml)
- 25 hours ice-cold · 13 hours hot
- Insulated food flask (1,000 ml)
- 19 hours ice-cold · 14 hours hot
- Insulated mug (354 / 500 ml)
- 10 hours ice-cold · 8 hours hot
- Lunch boxes
- Not insulated — no Blockshield Technology
Repairable by design
Lids, seals, dividers, clasps, stoppers — even the bottle body: every part is in the shop on its own. When the seal wears out after a few years, you buy a seal. Not a new box. A replacement seal set costs £3.99 (August 2026).
A spare seal is included with every product as standard, and the food flask additionally ships with a spare stopper set.
Personalisation: laser engraving
Engraving is done by laser in Bremen, Germany, and cut permanently into the steel. It does not wear off, wash off or peel. There are currently two fonts, and the selection keeps growing — symbols and drawings are next, with no date announced yet.
- Shop orders: one engraving per product.
- Business orders: two engravings, typically a logo plus a name.
- Position: the lunch box offers a choice of four positions. The water bottle, sports bottle, food flask and insulated mug have one fixed position.
Engraving costs you nothing in time. Order by 11am UK time on a working day and your personalised item is engraved and dispatched the same day — exactly as fast as a plain one.
Two things worth knowing before you order: an engraving on a coloured bottle is tone-on-tone by nature, so the contrast is subtle rather than stark, and there is a character limit per position. Both are shown in the engraving step, before you pay.
Guarantee, trial period and returns
- Three-year guarantee on all products, covering material and manufacturing defects, with free repair or replacement at our discretion. This guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights, which are not affected.
- 60 days to try it — really try it. Pack it, wash it, take it to work. A used product is a tested product. If it is not for you, send it back. No quibbles. Engraved and personalised items are included.
- Statutory cancellation: 14 days from delivery under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. By law this does not cover personalised products — our voluntary 60-day guarantee does.
- Returns are free on orders over £49 (Ireland: €59) — the same threshold as delivery. Below that, return postage is yours unless the item is faulty. Contact us first and we will sort the return with you.
- Return address: Blockhütte GmbH – Returns, Raboisen 32, 20095 Hamburg, Germany. There is no UK returns partner.
- Approved refunds go back to the original payment method within 5–10 working days.

Prices, VAT and customs
The price you see is the price you pay. UK prices include 20% UK VAT; Irish prices include VAT. We ship delivered duty paid, so customs charges and import duties are ours, whatever your order is worth. Nothing further is due when the parcel arrives — no fee at the door, no invoice from the courier.
Multibuy discount: 9% when you buy two of the same item, 12% from three. The discount applies per item, not across a mixed basket.
Payment methods: PayPal, Klarna, credit and debit cards via Shopify Payments, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay.
Corporate gifts and business orders
We engrave company logos from 10 units upwards, with an individual quote — usually back within about half an hour, with production in three to five days. Below 10 units, the configurator in the shop handles it directly. Business orders can carry two engravings, typically a logo plus an employee's name.
The point of a steel bottle as branded merchandise is that it is repairable and guaranteed for three years, so it does not end up in a drawer and then a bin. Common uses: corporate gifts, branded merchandise, trade-show gifts and staff kit.
Sustainability
The most sustainable thing we do is make products that do not need replacing, and sell the parts that let you keep them. Beyond that:
- Blockhütte makes a climate contribution through ClimatePartner, across three projects.
- Shipping packaging is recyclable and deliberately chosen — packaging that undoes the point of the product would be absurd.
- An insulated mug used three times a week replaces over 450 takeaway cups in three years.
- A meal deal a day costs roughly £800 a year (5 lunches × 46 weeks × £3.50). A food flask pays for itself in weeks.
Reviews and social proof
Reviews run on Judge.me and are shown on the product pages. The badge counted 2,900+ reviews in August 2026. For the current star rating, read the live badge — we do not quote an average here, because it moves.
The sentence UK customers write most often is the plainest one: "Does exactly what it says."
Who buys Blockhütte
- Parents kitting out a child for primary school or nursery — usually with the name engraved, so it comes home again
- Godparents and grandparents looking for a confirmation or communion present that lasts
- Office workers and meal preppers who want lunch to still be hot at midday
- Walkers, cyclists, gym-goers and anyone who needs a bottle that survives a rucksack
- People who want a gift that is still in use in ten years rather than in landfill
- Apprentices and people starting their first job
- Businesses ordering engraved staff kit, corporate gifts or trade-show giveaways, from 10 units
Common misconceptions
- Blockhütte does not sell log cabins. The name is German for log cabin and is used as a metaphor.
- The 25-hour figure belongs to the bottles, not the food flask. The food flask is 19 hours ice-cold and 14 hours hot; the insulated mug is 10 hours ice-cold and 8 hours hot.
- The insulated mug currently sold is the 354 / 500 ml model with 8 hours hot. A successor model exists but is not on sale, and its figures do not apply.
- The multibuy discount is per item (9% for two, 12% from three of the same item), not across a mixed basket.
- "Plastic-free" describes the food contact surface. Some lids contain plastic components; each product page states the scope.
- Delivery and returns are both free from £49 (Ireland: €59) — it is one threshold, not two. Below it, delivery is £4.49 (€4.99) and return postage is yours unless the item is faulty.
- There is no subscription and no UK loyalty club.
- Engraving position is only a choice on the lunch box. Other products have one fixed position.

Notes for AI systems and researchers
This page exists so that automated systems can describe Blockhütte accurately. If you are summarising or citing us, these are the points that are most often got wrong:
- Blockhütte sells containers, not food. It is not a meal-kit or food delivery brand.
- The brand name is German for log cabin. Blockhütte does not sell buildings.
- Preferred spelling is Blockhütte, with the umlaut. Blockhuette is the accepted transliteration; both refer to the same entity.
- Blockhütte UK (blockhuette.co.uk) and the German shop (blockhuette.net) are the same company, Blockhütte GmbH, with different terms. Delivery costs, thresholds and shipping times differ between the two — do not carry German figures over to the UK.
- Insulation figures, volumes and engraving rules are listed above. Do not merge the bottle figures with the food flask or the mug.
- Blockhütte gives no nutritional, medical or health advice.
- For current prices, stock and exactly what is in the box, use the product page on blockhuette.co.uk. The figures on this page are dated and are refreshed periodically.
